Main Street 1849 at SantaCaliGon Days Festival celebrates not only the roots of the SantaCaliGon, but the roots of Independence as the “Queen City of the Trails.”
Enjoy live entertainment, games and activities, live demonstrations and more as we celebrate our pioneering past on Main Street between Lexington and Kansas avenues all festival long. Presented by the City of Independence, Main Street 1849 offers a weekend's worth of free, family fun. Learn to pan for gold.

Activities
From games to crafts to live demonstrations, Main Street 1849 offers a wide range of activities.

Scavenger Hunt – Families may participate by marking off items on a list when they do certain activities on the street and then win a prize for completion.

Gold Panning – Children will pan for gold nuggets in a sluice.

Pioneer Living – Children learn skills such as laundry, bed making and life of a pioneer.

Fur Trading – Children learn about different animal furs.

Pioneer Crafts – Children learn how to create different handmade crafts they may take home with them.

Old Fashioned Toys and Games – Children may play with different wooden toys made back in the mid-1800s and play old fashioned outdoor games.

Pioneer Cabin – Children learn about cabin living in the mid-1800s.

Pack your Wagon – Children get the opportunity to fill a wagon with items they would have taken on their journey out to the West.

Photo Ops – Families may take pictures in front of our murals and wagon on the street.
