SantaCaliGon® Days Festival 2020 cancelled
due to COVID-19 Pandemic
The Independence Chamber of Commerce has made the tough decision to cancel the 2020 SantaCaliGon® Days Festival, originally scheduled for Labor Day weekend, September 4 through 7, due to COVID-19.
“As we explored all options in which to hold the festival, it was clear that there was no path forward and the safety of our guests, entertainers, volunteers, and staff was our primary concern when making this decision,” Chamber Chair Sonci Bleckinger said. “With an annual attendance of over 300,000, being able to provide adequate social distancing, sanitation, and public health support in a festival environment was going to be impossible to achieve.”
The Chamber is working with previous festival vendors to create a virtual shopping platform.
Details and an expected roll-out date will be announced soon.
“The cancellation of the festival will also hit many of our local non-profits hard as many of them rely on the festival to provide financial support for their programs and operations,” Bleckinger said. “We encourage you to find ways you can support them so that they can continue their important missions in our community.”
The SantaCaliGon® Days Festival Committee is already working on the 2021 event and hopes to announce details in the Spring of 2021.
“The impact of the COVID-19 virus has changed our world and we all look forward to a day when we can return to our normal activities,” SantaCaliGon® Days Festival Committee Chair Eric Knipp said. “The SantaCaliGon® Days Festival will return and the Chamber staff, our festival committee members and countless volunteers will continue to work hard in the interim to make it one of the best events ever when it does return.”
We encourage you to stay in touch and to look for updates from the Independence Chamber of Commerce and the SantaCaliGon® Days Festival Committee at ichamber.biz and santacaligon.com and our social media platforms.
We look forward to seeing you in 2021 to celebrate!
